Privacy Policy
The short version. Your drink history, goals and settings stay on your device. Beverly has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we never sell your information. We receive something only when you send it: a drink request, a problem report, or barcode matches you've chosen to share. Apple Health data never leaves your device.
WaterSparklez LLC ("WaterSparklez," "we," "us" or "our") makes Beverly, an iPhone and iPad app for logging drinks and tracking their caffeine, sugar, water and nutrition. This Privacy Policy describes how we process personal information in connection with the Beverly app and this website, beverly.watersparklez.com (together, the "Service").
Notice to European users: please see the Notice to European users below for additional information for individuals in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom ("Europe").
What stays on your device
Beverly keeps the following on your iPhone or iPad. We never receive it:
- the drinks you log, with their times and amounts;
- drinks you create or edit, your goals, your bedtime and your app settings;
- barcodes you link to drinks (unless you turn on Share Barcode Matches, below);
- anything Beverly reads from or writes to Apple Health;
- the camera picture used to scan a barcode, which is read on the device and never saved or sent.
Beverly does not sync this information to iCloud. If you use iCloud or iTunes backups of your device, Apple includes the app's data in those backups under Apple's own terms.
Personal information we collect
Information you choose to send us
- Drink requests. When you ask us to add a drink: its name, brand, container size, barcode and any notes you type, with the time of the request and the app version.
- Problem reports. When you report a problem with a drink: the kind of problem, the drink's name, brand and container size, any details you type, the drink's barcode and which catalog picture it shows, with the time and the app version.
- Barcode matches, only if you turn on Share Barcode Matches. Beverly asks once, after you first link a barcode, and the switch is in Settings. When it's on, we receive the barcode digits and the catalog drink you linked them to, and barcodes that matched nothing. No name, notes or other details are sent.
- Emails. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.
Please don't put personal details such as your name, phone number or health information in a request's notes or a report's details.
Information collected automatically
- iCloud identifiers. Requests, reports and barcode matches travel through Apple's CloudKit service. If you're signed in to iCloud, CloudKit attaches a random identifier that is specific to Beverly. It doesn't tell us your name, email address or Apple Account. To deliver the records, Apple processes network information such as your IP address under the Apple Privacy Policy. We do not receive it.
- Website logs. This website is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes request information such as IP address, browser type and the page requested to deliver and protect the site. The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics.
Purchases
If you buy Beverly Pro, Apple handles the payment through your Apple account. We never receive your payment details. To tell whether Pro is unlocked, the App uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service that acts for us. RevenueCat receives a random identifier the App creates (not your name, email or Apple Account), your App Store purchase records (which product, when, and whether a subscription or trial is active), your device type, iOS and App version, country and IP address. It never receives the drinks you log. RevenueCat processes this under its privacy policy. Apple also gives us sales reports that don't identify you.
Beverly contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code, and it does not use your information to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Apple Health
If you turn on Sync to Apple Health, Beverly writes the nutrition and fluid volume of each drink you log to Apple Health: energy, sugar, caffeine, sodium, fat, carbohydrates, protein, water and, where known, vitamins and minerals. If you turn on Read Sleep from Apple Health, Beverly reads your sleep to compare the nights you go to bed with caffeine in you against the rest.
Data that Beverly reads from or writes to Apple Health stays on your device. It is never sent to us or anyone else, never stored in iCloud by Beverly, and never used for advertising, marketing or data mining. You can change Beverly's Health permissions at any time in the Health app, and data Beverly wrote can be deleted there or with Settings › Clear Data.
How we use your personal information
- To run and improve the drink catalog: to add the drinks you request, correct what you report, and add barcode matches to the catalog so other people's scans find their drinks.
- To respond to you when you email us.
- For compliance and protection: to comply with law and legal process, to protect our, your or others' rights, privacy, safety or property, and to prevent fraud and abuse of the Service.
When a barcode match or a requested drink is added to the catalog, it ships to every Beverly user as catalog data, with nothing that connects it to the person who sent it. We do not use your personal information for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making, and we do not sell it.
How we share your personal information
- Service providers that operate the Service for us: Apple (CloudKit, which stores requests, reports and barcode matches), Cloudflare (website hosting and email forwarding) and our email provider, Google (Gmail).
- Authorities and others, such as law enforcement or government authorities, when we believe in good faith that it's necessary for the compliance and protection purposes above.
- Professional advisors, such as lawyers and accountants, in the course of the services they provide to us.
- Business transferees, if WaterSparklez or Beverly is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets or similar transaction. This Privacy Policy will continue to apply to your information.
Requests, reports and barcode matches are not shown to other users.
Retention
We keep requests, reports and barcode matches for as long as we need them to review them and maintain the catalog, and emails for as long as we need them to help you and keep a record of our correspondence. When we no longer need them, we delete them. What you keep on your device stays until you delete it or delete the app.
Your choices
- Don't send it. Requests, reports and emails are always your choice, and Beverly works fully without them.
- Stop sharing barcode matches by turning off Share Barcode Matches in Settings. Beverly stops sharing new matches, and any still waiting to be sent are deleted unsent.
- Export your data with Settings › Export Data, part of Beverly Pro.
- Delete your data with Settings › Clear Data, which removes your history, saved drinks, goals and drink requests from the device, along with what Beverly wrote to Apple Health. Deleting the app also removes its data from the device.
- Delete or get a copy of what you sent us by emailing support@watersparklez.com. Because Beverly has no account, tell us roughly when you sent it and which drink it named, so we can find it.
- Apple Health permissions can be changed at any time in the Health app.
Security
Requests, reports and barcode matches are sent over encrypted connections to Beverly's own database in Apple's CloudKit, which only Beverly and we can reach. The app never shows them to other users. We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect, but no internet service is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
International data transfer
We are based in the United States, and our service providers operate in the United States and other countries. Your personal information may be transferred to and processed in countries whose privacy laws may not be as protective as those where you live. Users in Europe should read the information about transfers outside Europe below.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and post the new version here and, where appropriate, tell you in the app. Using the Service after the effective date means the updated policy applies to your interactions with us.
